I visited the web today to add my origami. Since the cocoons did not get made I made my own version. Using the class syllabus I fold it into what is called an origami ballon. I pinned them to the web to look like cocoons. I liken the paper to the thread that holds our class together, and what is cocooned is our ideas and thoughts. Below you will also find a video of how I folded the paper. Enjoy.

BUGS!!!
Today I added my bug to the unfortunate clan out in the web. Here are some pictures of the making of, and installing of my little lady bug. It is made out of tracing paper and paper mache and water colors.

Here it is as just some wet paper mache and a balloon, and me desperately trying to get it to dry at 1AM.
Here is it all painted up and ready to be assembled
At first I hung it to the web, but then realized that the lady bug didn't want to fly.
so I tied it onto the tree, it looks much happier there.
Here's a nice shot I got of the whole web, it's really becoming something amazing!

The Tree
I am excited about the tree, cant wait to put up my little insects! :D I already heard someone talking about it!
Map to the Tree
Environmental Design Stage 1
Hey guys,
I wanna say thank you to Jimmy and Keith who helped out this morning to erect the web. Here are a few pictures of it thus far:
I left some of my bugs with our manifesto on them. I also left some safety pins to hanging from the web for anyone who wants to hang their bugs up.

STAGE 2: We're going tonight to take pictures of the web with my LED lights. That'll be our transition. I know it's gonna be tight! If you wanna come, call me! i've e-mailed you all my number.
I'll post up a MAP later on how to get to the web later.

New twist to the enviroment desgin?
So I was thinking about the bugs I was going to make for the web (lady bugs, btw) and I though it would be really cool to stick some lights inside of them and then come photograph it at night. This would also give it a light/dark transition which alan seems fond of (given the requirements for the other two designs) does this sound appealing to anyone else?

Web
Oh and just use the extra string to tie it to the tree. Take some scissors and cut the string to connect parts of the web to the branches. i would put the strings on it but i don't know how much slack you'll need and haven't seen the tree's position.
Spidey Web

Hey Ten Right angles,
i decided that since i didn't want to do any work that i would just do this web spider thingy because i have nothing better to do. SO here are some pictures.
*PLEASE READ*: Hopefully someone can pick this up who will be going on sunday to put it up as i might not be. i'm at college ten.
The middle is kind of a mess because i was still figuring out how to do it, but just put one of the big spiders or something there and it will cover it up.
I tried using knots first, but that failed once i realized that the spool of string would be inconvenient to tie knots. So i went with tape. i hope it holds and i hope it's not too bad.
i started out by just taping the middle of each of the 5 strings to the circle as straight as i could.
i then taped down the ends, and started wrapping the string on the web starting in the middle.
This is the 360 degree circle that i used to evenly spread out the strings. Making two crosses with 4 strings didn't tickle my fancy, so i went with 5 strings, meaning about 72 degrees between each which made it a little bit harder, but looks better i think.

At about this point i was like, "Holy shit this just might actually work."
Spider Web
Hey gang,
Krys just gave me the string for the spider web so i'll be making that asap.
I know you guys were talking about putting it up sunday so ill have it done by then fourshore.

Re: Environmental Design
Hey all,
Krys and I are going down to pick up stuff for the design on Wednesday after 2 PM.
I won't be here during this weekend to help put it up tho. I would like to be part of it, but don't plan the construction of the design around my schedule.
See y'all tomorrow!!!

Getting Materials
Hey guys,
I want to clarify when I'm available to go purchase the materials for our Environmental Design. Here's my schedule:
I preferably would like to go Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays anytime after 2pm. I can make trips on Monday and Wednesday but they'd have to be after 2pm and before 5pm because I have work.
Brain: Do we have a specific date when we'd like to put it up by? I was thinking we should all meet together this weekend (5/15-5/17) and probably work together up by our tree.
Whoever is interested in coming with me please give me a call: 310 951 1979 or e-mail me at kryshill89@yahoo.com.

Thursday's Meeting
ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN:
Spider Webs! Angus is going to buy some string for our webs, we will all have to chip in when he gives us a receipt. Upon the webs completion it should reach about 8 to 10 feet in diameter. Angus, James, and Krys will be starting the build very soon, so contact Krys if you'd like to help.
What you can do in the meantime is start building a bug or two, maybe a book with spiders coming out of it, and bring it the web to hang next week. The suggested medium is papier mache or something equally light where you can write words from our manifesto on it. As you're building, take photo's of your build and post them to the blog.
We will also post some description of our piece to invite people who come upon it to add something to the web. We will also try and document this.
INTERVIEW:
If you haven't yet, please post your questions to the blog.
Dr. Seth Shostak is on travel this week and won't be available for interviews. He will return next week where I will interview him using the questions you post. I talked to Al and Melanie about our scheduling problem and they said it's fine if it's late, they're eager to hear our project. Yay!
STAGE DESIGN:
We briefly touched on the stage design topic. My suggestion, start reading plays and thinking about what shows or concepts you would like to design.
I'm counting on the people in our group, passionate about design, (ie. model building) to have a big hand in this.
Next meeting after class on Tuesday, bring an idea for a Stage Design, remember to show a transition. Feel free to bring in some sketches.
As always feel free to comment or ask if you need anything.
Cheers,
Brian

Environmental Design Proposal (1st draft)
The Spider Web
The Ten Right Angles envision the world with respect to our manifesto in the shape of a web. The idea behind the web is to use it as a tool for inspiring others to think about where they or their ideas stand in the order of society and the world as a whole. By constructing a web and entangling it to an isolated tree we show how the web is interconnected with life and thus must capture life itself. The web will consist of bugs constructed from old documents, books, newspaper, etc. these "insects" will carry ideals from our group as well as anyone who comes across the design. Then, others are able to contribute to our web of life and add their own personal manifesto. The position of the object on the web signifies hierarchy. The center, where the predator waits represents higher importance, while ideas spread across the perimeter represent ideals of significance that are often preyed upon or discarded.
Who: Each person will be responsible for creating one insect with a piece of our manifesto written on it. The web will be created on location with the group (as will the attachment of the insects)
What: Yarn/string material for the web (debatable depending on the environment). The insects will be made from old papers especially ones containing old news stories.
When: TBA
Where: The meadow behind the music center. Atop the highest hill, on the tree that stands alone there.

Hey guys, sorry for posting it so late. You're welcome to change anything i've written. PLEASE add anything that'll make it better. Again, sorry for not posting it sooner.
